The test reports four numbers, live while you type and in a summary when time runs out:
Net WPM — correctly typed characters ÷ 5 per minute. This is your headline speed.
Raw WPM — every typed character ÷ 5 per minute, including mistakes.
Accuracy — the share of character positions you got right on the first try.
Errors — every wrong first attempt, including characters typed past the end of the passage.
Scoring is deliberately strict: each character position counts exactly once, on your first keystroke. Backspacing and retyping never adds characters or erases an error, so a type-delete-retype loop can't farm WPM. How is WPM calculated?
One word is standardized as five characters. Net WPM counts only correctly typed characters per minute; Raw WPM counts every character you typed. The gap between the two shows how much speed you lose to errors.
Which test lengths are available?
Timed mode offers 15, 30, 60, and 120 seconds. Words mode is a fixed 20-word sprint, and you can also type quotes or real code snippets in JavaScript, Python, TypeScript, and SQL.
Do backspace corrections affect my score?
Corrections can't inflate it. Every character position is scored exactly once, on your first attempt. Fixing a mistake doesn't erase the original error, and backspacing adds nothing to your character count.
